We grow avocados in Southern California

Our Goal is Sustainability

by meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations

we are a small grove but we take our actions seriously.

What we have accomplished with the trees

In 2021, we stumped over 500 trees, providing renewal for the trees and improving avocado production.

In 2023, we planted 200 baby avocado trees.

In 2024, we planted a further 100 trees.

What goals we have attained

Feb 2024, we install a well.

2022/2023 we donated over a thousand pounds of avocados to food banks.

We planted bushes, trees, and plants to attract bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies.

We renovated all the buildings using eco-friendly materials when we could.

Future Goals

We plan to install solar panels in three areas of the grove, so we will be off the grid.

Unusual titbits about the property

Artwork is scattered throughout the grove.

The house is purple.

They have a road named coyote alley for obvious reasons.

They have two female rescue dogs that love racing around the grove.

They performed all the renovations and repairs themselves.

Wildlife on the Grove

Mexican orioles visit the property every summer.

Hummingbirds are their favorite neighbors.

They get a variety of snakes, such as rattlesnakes, king snakes, racers, and gopher snakes.

Tarantulas are shy. They come out at night and gladly keep away from them.

Natural and Wildlife issues

Wildfires are common between August and November, so weed maintenance is essential.

Gophers love to eat new plant roots. Thus far, they have lost approximately 30 new avocado trees and many young bushes and plants.

Our Story

Joanna and David Loring were searching for a forever property with some acres. In 2020, during COVID-19, they bought a dilapidated 12-acre property with underperforming avocado trees.

They saw possibilities

  • The views were/are spectacular.
  • The property came with a house, a guest, a greenhouse, a garage, and a garden shed.
  • The grove had approximately 700 avocado trees, several orange and grapefruit trees, and a macadamia nut tree.
  • The property was/is 0.5 mile from the freeway.

It wasn’t going to be easy

  • A limited budget.
  • During COVID, it was difficult to hire people.
  • Building materials were backordered.
  • Joanna and David had no experience in growing avocados.
