Avocado Recipes

Avocados have become more and more popular with unique recipes, from simple to complex. These are some of our favorite recipes, enjoy them!

Creamy Avocado Spread

This complimentary spread can be added to various meals. Use for sandwiches, pizza, toast, appetizers, and even add to entrée meals.

I actually prefer this to guacamole, and it is simple to do.

You will need:

  • Avocados
  • Limes or lemons
  • Salt and pepper

In addition, you can add any favorite spice or herb to make it your own. Examples: curry powder, garlic, turmeric, cumin, chili pepper, chives, cilantro.

I usually see how many ripe avocados I have on hand.  Just in case you are new to avocados, here is step by step process:

  • Cut the avocado lengthwise, cut down to the seed, and slice around the pit.
  • Gently twist the avocado; the halves will come apart.
  • To remove the pit, use a spoon to dig it out. If the avocado is ripe, it should easily pop out.
  • Scoop the flesh into a bowl.
  • Use a fork or spoon to mash the avocado.
  • Add half a lemon or lime juice. Stir and taste. Add more if you need to.
  • Add salt and pepper, stir, taste. Start with a pinch of each and slowly add more to your liking.
  • Not mandatory but you can add any herb or spice of your choice. I find it’s best not to overdo it so as not to overpower the avocado.

I usually taste it 4 or 5 times to get the correct seasoning.

*Tips

  • People’s tastes are different, so don’t overdo the spice and it’s essential you constantly taste.
  • To preserve the spread longer, use cellophane or parchment paper to cover the spread even though you have a lid on the container. There should be no space/air between the lid and spread. This will keep the spread from browning quickly.
